CONSTITUTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION - ATLAS
(Last revised Fall 2008)
Article I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the ATLAS: International Club.
Article II. PURPOSE and GOALS:
- To encourage multicultural awareness on campus through cultural and educational activities.
- To facilitate cross cultural, political, social dialogue among the members of the Connecticut College and the outside community.
- To support the activities of Unity House, the multicultural center of Connecticut College and other clubs.
- To assist with international cultural transition.
- To develop and strengthen the international community on campus.
Article III: MEMBERSHIP
- Membership may not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, national or ethnic origin, visible or invisible disability or status as a disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam War.
- Voting membership is open to any matriculated student of Connecticut College.
- Non-voting membership is open to faculty, staff, administration and their families.
- Membership not provided for in ARTICLE III, Sections 1 and 2 shall not exceed 10% of the total registered membership.
- Voting members must be registered with the club in order to cast votes during organization meetings.
Article IV: EXECUTIVE BOARD

- A Political Chair/Unity Representative.
- A Cultural chair
- A SAC Representative
- A Public Relation Officer
- Webmaster
- Language liason.
- Two Freshmen Representatives
Article V: DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OFFICERS
CHAIR/CO-CHAIRS:
- Maintaining a voting list and a list of transactions with other clubs and the SGA
- The financial organization of the club
- Organizing and conducting meetings
- Ensuring the continuation of the club, its goals, and membership
- Work with the officers of the Executive Board in coordinating their efforts and maintaining unity in the organization's objectives and programming.
- Recommend to the Executive Board, the removal of any elected or appointed officer who fails to perform their duties of office.
- Be responsible for the appointment/approval of all standing committees and subcommittees.
- Train and furnish all records to successor.
- Be actively involved in events of the club prior to running for elections.
SECRETARY:
- Record, distribute, and maintain files of minutes on all meetings, in a timely fashion.
- Take attendance at all meetings for records.
- Keep the official membership roster updated along with mailing and phone/voicemail list.
- Be responsible for maintaining a voting list.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
TREASURER:
- Maintaining an accurate ledger, collecting and remitting receipts, and reporting to the chair/co-chair on a timely basis about the financial status of the club
- Be responsible for the financial affairs of the club.
- Outline budget reports for each event, compiling this information into a mid-year and end of year Treasury report.
- Be responsible for submitting budget proposals to the Student Government Finance Committee and the Student Activities Council Co-Sponsorship Committee.
- Coordinate and report activities of subcommittees under his/her jurisdiction.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
POLITICAL CHAIR/UNITY REPRESENTATIVE:
- Collect and report data and information about current political issues and trends, which reflect the goals and objectives of the organization, for use in program structure.
- Fill in the duties of the chairperson in his/her absence.
- Act as an Administrative Liaison, by writing letters to and meetings with appropriate faculty and administration.
- Be responsible for maintaining communications with Unity House and other Clubs.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
SAC REPRESENTATIVE:
- Keep abreast of and announce local and campus social events.
- Be responsible for identifying any event conflicts with other campus organizations.
- Work with Treasurer on all SAC co-sponsorship proposals.
- Be responsible for reserving rooms and equipment for events.
- Obtain and keep records of all event location and equipment confirmation notices.
- Collect and report data and information about current national, international, and campus-wide cultural issues and trends, which reflect the goals and objectives of the organization, for use in program structure.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
WEBMASTER:
- Maintain the ATLAS website and update it regularly.
- Work with the Secretary and post the minutes online.
- Train and furnish all records to successor.
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER:
- Be responsible for the advertising of events and activities.
- Submit articles and information to campus publications.
- Oversee the distribution of thank you notes to guests and speakers.
- Train and furnish records to successor.
CULTURAL REPRESENTATIVE:
- Collect and report data and information about current cultural issues and trends, which reflect the goals and objectives of the organization, for use in program structure.
- Fill in the duties of the chairperson in his/her absence.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
- Attend Cultural Diversity committee meeting and report to the club members
LANGUAGE LIASON:
- Act as liason between the club and the language departments.
- Incorporate language departments in the club activities.
- Seek support from language and other academic departments.
- Act as an intermediary between people interested in studying abroad or traveling and the members of the club.
- Train and furnish all records to their successor.
FRESHMEN REPRESENTATIVES:
- Be responsible for collecting and reporting information about concerns and suggestions from the freshman club members.
- Serve as motivator and model for freshman participating in planning, facilitating, and attending of events and activities.
- Assist members of the Executive Board, to gain experience in each position.
- Train and furnish all records to successor.
Article VI: NOMINATIONS FOR ELECTIONS
Elections shall be held in April of every year to elect officers for the following year. Nominations will be received from self nominations from the eligible voting members. Winners will be chosen by simple majority of club members.
Article VII: AMENDMENTS
Amendments must be presented to all voting members in writing. Amendments must be approved by the Student Government Association.
Article VIII: RATIFICATION
This constitution must be ratified by the Student Government Organization
